Punjab police foil terror module linked to Jaish-e-mohammad, arrest 3 associates from Jammu and Kashmir

PTC News Desk: In a significant breakthrough, the Punjab police have foiled a terror module linked to Jaishe-e-mohammad (JeM) and arrested three individuals from Jammu and Kashmir in abduction & murder of a cab driver. The officials have also recovered the vehicle and weapons. 


The accused Sahil Bashir is a wanted individual in a UAPA and Arms Act case registered at PS Qalamabad, Handwara, J&K. His brother Aijaz Ahmad had earlier been arrested with a cache of weapons and materials linked to JeM. Both are identified as Over Ground Workers (OGWs) of JeM.

The other two accused have been identified as Munish Singh alies Ansh and Aijaz Ahmad alias Wasim.

The cab driver, Anil Kumar, 27, was a resident of Nayagaon and used to drive cab across tricity. A case of abduction and murder was registered after police discovered his body near Mohali airport. 

Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav took to his social media and confirmed the development. "In connection with the abduction and murder of cab driver Anil Kumar, resident of Nayagaon, #Mohali, a case was promptly registered after his vehicle was forcibly snatched by an unidentified assailants," DGP Gaurav Yadav said.

According to the preliminary investigation reveals that the cab driver was hired from Kharar area who was fatally shot later. In view of the sensitivity of the crime, multiple police teams were deployed to apprehend the accused. 

"The snatched vehicle and the .32 bore pistol used in the crime have been recovered. During interrogation, the accused confessed to having fatally shot the driver after an altercation and later disposed of the body in the Mohali area," the post added.
