Punjab: Rescue underway to save technician buried under soil in Jalandhar
Jalandhar, August 14: A desperate rescue operation is underway to extricate a technician trapped under a staggering 80 feet of soil at the construction site of the Delhi-Katra Expressway on the Kartarpur-Kapurthala road. However, the operation encountered a major setback on Monday morning when additional soil collapsed at the site, further delaying the rescue efforts and diminishing the chances of the man's survival.
The technician, identified as Suresh Kumar, became trapped when the ground gave way on Saturday night. The rescue operation has been in progress since 8 pm on Saturday, but the recent development has prolonged the ordeal.
Suresh and his colleague, Pawan, were working to repair a malfunctioning machine when the tragic incident occurred. The local administration cited the presence of loose soil and a nearby pond as formidable challenges hampering the rescue efforts.
Jasbir Singh, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Jalandhar, disclosed that a considerable amount of soil collapsed on Monday morning while rescue teams were nearing the trapped individual. He estimated that approximately three more hours would be required to successfully extract the man.
As time ticks away and rescue workers continue their valiant efforts, the situation remains critical. The community and authorities are united in their hope for a successful rescue, though the obstacles and risks are undeniably substantial.
