Punjabi businessman shot dead outside farm in Surrey
PTC Web Desk: A Punjabi businessman was shot dead in a targeted daylight attack near his farm in Surrey, Canada, on Tuesday afternoon, triggering fresh concerns over rising violence against prominent members of the South Asian business community.
The victim has been identified as 48-year-old Binder Garcha. According to local media reports, the shooting took place at around 12:05 pm (Canada time) near the entrance gate of his property, located at the intersection of 176 Street and 35 Avenue.
Emergency services rushed to the spot following reports of gunfire, but Garcha succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The assailants reportedly fled immediately after the attack.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has taken charge of the case. Investigators later located a burned vehicle in South Surrey, which authorities believe may be connected to the suspects involved in the killing.
The police have not made any arrests so far and have not publicly disclosed a motive. Officials said the investigation is in its early stages and multiple angles are being examined.
Meanwhile, members of the Punjabi community and local sources have voiced alarm over what they describe as a growing pattern of targeted attacks on well-established Punjabi entrepreneurs in the region. Concerns have been raised about extortion networks and organised crime, which have increasingly come under scrutiny following a series of violent incidents in recent years.
