Sri Fatehgarh Sahib, December 28: To mark the martyrdom of Baba Zorawar Singh, Baba Fateh Singh and Mata Gujri Ji, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), with the support of Sikh organisations, religious societies and Sikh Sangat, on Wednesday organised a  huge nagar kirtan from Gurdwara Sri Fatehgarh Sahib to Gurdwara Jyoti Sarup.

Among others who were present on the occasion were Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh, SGPC president Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh, Damdami Taksal chief Baba Harnam Singh Khalsa and Shiromani Panth Akali Budha Dal Chief Baba Balbir Singh. Lakhs of devotees reached Sri Fatehgarh Sahib in the last three days to participate in the nagar kirtan and pay obeisance at Gurdwara Fatehgarh Sahib, Gurdwara Thanda Burj and Gurdwara Jyoti Sarup.

Earlier, before the commencement of the religious procession, 'Asa Di War' was organised at Gurdwara Sri Fatehgarh Sahib, wherein head granthi Giani Harpal Singh shed light on the life history of Mata Gujri Ji and Chotte Sahibzadas. SGPC chief Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami presented 'siropas' to 'Panj Pyaras' .

Students of various schools and academies showed their gatka (Sikh martial art) skills during the nagar kirtan. Langars were organised en route by sangats and sabhas during the three-day Shaheedi Jor Mela.



At Gurdwara Jyoti Sarup, where the nagar kirtan culminated, famous 'ragi jathas'  recited Shabad Kirtan.  SGPC president Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami exhorted the sangat to follow in the footsteps of Guru Gobind Singh.

Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh also addressed the congregation and emphasised on making today's youngsters aware of Sikh history and tradition.
