Addressing a press conference here today, Prof. Chandumajra said that action of the Punjab Government to get vacated Joint land holdings in the name of shamlat lands was totally unconstitutional. He said that this decision of Punjab Government will further create unrest in the state. He said that this decision will also land people in multiple court cases as the mutation of the concerned land has been done several times after sales. He said that this will further disturb law and order situation which was already under stress under the present Bhagwant Mann government. He said that Punjab was also ready passing through a phase of anarchy and this decision will make matter worse.

He said that reality is that real owners of land were people of the state. He said that during 1948 Murrababandi people had kept Joint land holding for common welfare works. He said that when such shamlat lands were not used for common welfare works, real owners of such lands got them registered in their name which was also their basic right. He said that no government can claim right illegally on such lands.

Former MP also raised issue of 25 percent reservation of shamlat land for dalits and said that several influential people have already purchased such lands and got them registered in their names but no one is taking action in this matter which was totally unconstitutional.

He said that instead of getting vacated land from common people, government should initiate action against such defaulters and should reconsider its decision to get lands vacated from common people.

Responding to questions of media, Prof. Chandumajra said that Centre’s interference in the state was increasing day by day. He said that earlier membership of Punjab from BBMB was snatched away and later jurisdiction of BSF was increase from 15 to 50 kilometres. He said that Bhagwant Mann led AAP government has done only lip service to oppose such decision.

He demanded that AAP government should immediately convene all party meeting on the issue of separate land demanded by Haryana for its Vidhan Sabha in Chandigarh. He said that this was a serious issue concerned with Federalism in the country and CM should act accordingly after consulting all the political parties of the state.
