SYL canal issue: Punjab BJP passes resolution, says state does not have surplus water
PTC Web Desk: The core committee of the Punjab BJP, on the contentious issue of the SYL (Sutlej-Yamuna Link) canal, on Thursday passed a resolution asserting that "Punjab does not possess surplus water and is facing a severe scarcity of surface water".
Under the chairmanship of state BJP president Sunil Jakhar, the party's core committee convened and adopted a resolution highlighting Punjab's lack of surplus water and the critical shortage of surface water. They attributed this situation to the transfer of the state's river waters to regions that are not part of its basin or riparian areas.

The BJP's resolution emphasised that such actions not only contravene constitutional provisions, but also defy the principles of natural justice. The party expressed its strong determination to safeguard Punjab's water resources.

The BJP resolution criticised the AAP government, stating, "People of Punjab gave an overwhelming electoral mandate to AAP in the hope of Punjab's interests being protected. Instead, in an unpardonable act of betrayal, AAP is misappropriating Punjab's natural resources to garner political influence in other states. Through this resolution, we demand Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann to respect the mandate of the people of Punjab, protect the vital interests of Punjab, in particular of the farmers, or quit."
The BJP affirmed its commitment to vigorously oppose and make any necessary sacrifices to prevent the construction of the SYL canal or the establishment of any new water conduit for diverting Punjab's waters to regions outside its basin and riparian areas.
