Punjab MLAs, MPs to get single pension, says CM Bhagwant Mann

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Friday made a big announcement in which he said to refuel Punjab’s economy now MLAs and MPs of the state will get single pension, irrespective of their previous wins.

Taking to his twitter the newly elected CM wrote, "Today, we have taken another big decision. The pension formula for Punjab's MLAs will be changed. MLAs will now be eligible for only one pension. Thousands of crores of rupees which were being spent on MLA pensions will now be used to benefit the people of Punjab." The Chief Minister, in a video message, said: "Only one pension will be given even if an MLA has served five or six terms and not an additional pension for each term served." Earlier, the Bhagwant Mann-led AAP government in Punjab had passed a proposal of providing a total of 25,000 government jobs at its first Cabinet meeting.   Out of a total of 25,000 government jobs, a total of 10,000 vacancies are in the Punjab Police and the other 15,000 belong to other departments. Announcing the decision, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann today said that politicians from across the political sphere go to people with folded hands, pleading for votes from people in the name of doing their “sewa”. “But you will be shocked that those who have been elected MLAs for three, five or even six terms, have been taking away lakhs as pension. They don’t even come to the Vidhan Sabha. The pension they get varies from Rs 3.50 lakh to Rs 5.25 lakh. This burdens the state exchequer. Some of these politicians have even served as members of Parliament and get that pension as well,” he said.   Also ReadPunjab CM Bhagwant Mann seeks package from Centre to improve state's financial health -PTC News
