Punjab Sports Minister Meet Hayer calls on Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur, seeks sports infra

Chandigarh, August 06: Punjab Sports Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer met Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur in New Delhi on Saturday and demanded that Punjab must be given priority in the central schemes related to sports. Sports Minister Meet Hayer said that the state government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is making great efforts to promote sports culture in Punjab. The preparations for the Asian Games to be held next year and the Paris Olympic Games to be held in 2024 have to be started right now” further said the minister. Meet Hayer said that since time immemorial, Punjab has had a close relationship with sports. In the ongoing Commonwealth Games at Birmingham, where Punjab athletes are participating in large numbers, four weightlifters have also won medals. 11 players including the captain of the Indian hockey team hails from Punjab. The Sports Minister of Punjab discussed with Thakur about the sports of Punjab and the country, how the sportsmen of the country can compete at the international level. On this occasion, Rajya Sabha Member from Punjab Sanjeev Arora and Principal Secretary of Sports Department Raj Kamal Chaudhary and Director Rajesh Dhiman were also present.
