Railways cancels 68 trains due to farmers' agitation in Punjab

In view of farmers' agitation in several parts of Punjab, the Railways has cancelled 68 trains. A spokesperson for the Northern Railway said due to the farmers’ agitation in Ferozepur division of Punjab, it had cancelled 68 trains, including two Vande Bharat and Rajdhani each, four Shatabdi Express, one Duranto, and two Janshatabdi Express trains. It had diverted 10 trains and short originated 12 trains in the wake of the farmers’ protest. The Railways also short terminated seven trains. Earlier in the day, sugarcane farmer leaders' meeting with a government expert panel remained inconclusive, as no agreement could be reached on the cost of production for cane. Farmers said they would meet Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh in Chandigarh at 3 pm on August 24 to determine the final SAP.
