Haryana has given several prominent sportsperson who have played for the nation and brought honour and glory. Meanwhile, India's women Hockey team captain Rani Rampal, boxers' World silver-medallist Amit Panghal and the seasoned Vikas Krishan have been nominated for the prestigious Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award. Rani Rampal belongs to Shahabad Markanda, a city in Kurukshetra district, while Amit Panghal hails from village Mayna in Jhajjar and Vikas Krishan from Hisar. Last Year, Rani was crowned the World Games Athlete of the Year. Rani has been a member of the national hockey team since she was 15-year-old. Currently, she has donned more than 240 caps for her country. Hockey India nominated Rani Rampal while Vandana Kataria, Monika and Harmanpreet Singh have been recommended for Arjuna award. Besides nominating Amit Panghal and Vikas Krishan for Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award, BFI nominated world bronze-winning trio — Lovlina Borgohain (69kg), Simranjit Kaur (64kg) and Manish Kaushik (63kg) for Arjuna awards. On the other hand, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) nominated Rohit Sharma for the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award besides nominating Ishant Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan and India woman all-rounder Deepti Sharma for Arjuna Award. -PTC News
