Sanjay Raut calls Sri Lanka's situation 'worrisome'; warns India on same path

New Delhi, April 5: Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut called Sri Lanka's situation "worrisome" on Tuesday, cautioning that India would be on the same path if the rising inflation is not tackled. Talking about rising inflation in India, Raut stated, "Sri Lanka's condition is very worrisome. India is on that path. We have to handle it otherwise our condition will be worse than Sri Lanka." The island nation is currently facing an unprecedented economic crisis. While public anger increases against the government, 26 Sri Lankan Cabinet Ministers have resigned en masse from their positions. In view of India's continuous price hikes, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has also called for an all-party meeting to be convened under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership to review the situation. India's condition could be 'worse' than Sri Lanka Responding to this, Raut said that "What Mamata Banerjee said is what we need to do; to sit together to find a solution in the interest of the nation." "Since Uttar Pradesh's election is over, the increase in prices of petrol-diesel was expected, but no one is talking about it. Yesterday, we closed the proceedings on the issue of a hike in fuel prices in Rajya Sabha. But, neither is anyone from the government coming openly to speak on it nor is there a concern about inflation. What should we do? There is nothing for government apart from elections and politics," he continued. India's condition could be 'worse' than Sri Lanka In addition, Raut stated that the Centre avoids dealing with inflation-related issues. "When there is an issue of a hike in fuel prices, they will raise issues like the hijab and halal. Till when this is going to take place? But let's see. Opposition parties are again sitting together," he stated. Notably, with the 13th revision in the fuel prices in 15 days, petrol and diesel rates have increased by 80 paise each on Tuesday. The total increase in fuel prices currently stands at Rs 9.20 per litre. In Delhi, a litre of petrol costs Rs 104.61 and a litre of diesel costs Rs 95.87. Meanwhile, in Mumbai, petrol costs Rs 119.67 a litre, up 84 paise, while diesel costs Rs 103.92, up 85 paise.
