Asian Games 2023: Indian athlete Parul Chaudhary makes history with gold in 5,000 m race

PTC Web Desk:  Parul Chaudhary, a 28-year-old Indian athlete, achieved a historic milestone on Tuesday as she secured the gold medal in the 5,000m race at the 2023 Asian Games. This remarkable victory marked Parul Chaudhary's second medal at the 19th Asian Games, having previously earned a silver medal in the women's 3,000m steeplechase event just a day earlier.

She has become the first Indian woman to bag gold medal in 5,000 m race in Asian Games 2023. Throughout the race, Parul Chaudhary strategically stayed behind the pack before making a decisive move alongside Japan's Ririka Hironaka, ultimately securing the victory. This remarkable achievement makes her the third Indian track and field athlete to claim gold at the event.

In a thrilling finish, Parul Chaudhary surged ahead of Hironaka in the final meters to secure the gold medal. Her remarkable performance in the women's 5000m race at the 2023 Asian Games resulted in a time of 15:14.75. This victory adds to her already impressive year, which saw her win two medals at the Asian Athletics Championships. In Bangkok, she claimed gold in the 3000m steeplechase and silver in the 5000m event. At the Asian Games, she achieved medals in these same two events, albeit with a swap in the medal colours.
