Vaibhav Suryavanshi scripts history: 14-year-old smashes record-breaking century in IPL 2025

PTC Web Desk:  On a balmy Monday evening at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur, Indian Premier League (IPL) history was rewritten by a boy barely into his teens. Vaibhav Suryavanshi, just 14 years old, became the youngest male cricketer to score a century in T20 cricket, bludgeoning a sensational 101 off 38 balls to help Rajasthan Royals chase down a daunting 209-run target in just 15.5 overs against the Gujarat Titans.

The left-handed batting prodigy unleashed 11 towering sixes and 7 crisp boundaries, reaching his century in just 35 deliveries—making it the second-fastest hundred in IPL history and the quickest by an Indian, eclipsing Yusuf Pathan’s 37-ball feat from 2010. Fittingly, Pathan congratulated the youngster on social media, saying, "Even more special to see it happen while playing for Rajasthan Royals, just like I did."

What made the moment more remarkable was that it came in only his third IPL innings, in a match that not only ended the Royals’ five-game losing streak but also stamped Suryavanshi’s arrival on the global stage.

A star born in Bihar

Hailing from Bihar, Vaibhav’s cricket journey began under the quiet but watchful eyes of his childhood coach, Manish Ojha. Vaibhav’s early years were built on relentless training—facing 350–400 balls daily, working on every shot in the book, from front-foot drives to lofted sixes. Ojha intentionally avoided robotic orthodox coaching. Instead, he allowed Vaibhav’s natural flair to flourish, shaping a technique inspired by Yuvraj Singh and Brian Lara—his idol.

Before the IPL limelight, Vaibhav had already carved out a niche in the domestic circuit. At just 12, he featured in the Ranji Trophy and later stunned Australia’s Under-19 side with a 58-ball century. He also scored a triple hundred in a local Bihar tournament.

At 13, he became the youngest ever to sign an IPL contract—catching the attention of scouts not just with his numbers, but with his poise under pressure. On IPL debut, he hit a six off the very first ball he faced.

The Jaipur innings was not just a record-breaking performance—it was a statement. As social media buzzed with “What were you doing at 14?” memes, it became clear: India’s cricketing future has a new face.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi isn’t just the youngest centurion in men’s T20 history. He is India’s next big thing—a quiet storm armed with power, precision, and poise far beyond his years.
