Sushma Swaraj birth anniversary: In a major tribute to the contribution of former External Affairs Minister late Smt. Sushma Swaraj to Indian diplomacy, the cause of Indian diaspora and ethos of public service, Pravasi Bhartiya Kendra in New Delhi has been renamed as Sushma Swaraj Bhawan and Foreign Service Institute also in New Delhi, as Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service.
The announcement comes on the eve of Sushma Swaraj’s birth anniversary falling on February 14. It has been decided to honour the legacy and decades of public service by the former External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj.
External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar took to twitter and wrote: “Glad to announce that the Government has decided to rename Pravasi Bhartiya Kendra as Sushma Swaraj Bhawan and Foreign Service Institute as Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service. A fitting tribute to a great public figure who continues to inspire us.”
“We all fondly remember Smt Sushma Swaraj, who would have turned 68 tomorrow. The MEA family misses her in particular,” he added.
Meanwhile, writer and activist Sadhavi Khosla said in a tweet: “Lovely! ? It’s a befitting tribute to the great soul. #SushmaSwaraj her legacy lives on.” BJP MP Shobha Karandlaje said, “Extremely grateful to PM Sri Narendra Modi Ji & EAM Sri Dr S Jaishankar Sir for the decision taken! This is the least the nation can do to pay tributes to the outstanding legacy of Sushma Swaraj Ji! Sushma Ji has been a source of inspiration to all of us!”
