Taranjit Singh Sandhu appointed as the next Ambassador of India to USA
Taranjit Singh Sandhu, presently High Commissioner of India, Colombo, has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to the United States of America. He will succeed Ambassador Harsh Vardhan Shringla, the new Foreign Secretary-designate, who will take charge later this month.
Meanwhile, the official sources revealed that the file relating to the Ambassador's appointment was cleared by the competent authority but the government is yet to make an official announcement. Currently, Taranjit Singh Sandhu is the High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka since January 24, 2017.
Sandhu has previously served as the Deputy Chief of Mission at Embassy of India in Washington DC from 2013 to 2017. Taranjit Singh Sandhu had also served in the Indian mission in DC between 1997 to 2000 and is believed to be a familiar face in the Washington DC circle.

The official also revealed that the further proceedings of the new appointment are also underway in Washington DC. Meanwhile, Shiromani Akali Dal President Sukhbir Singh Badal took to twitter and wrote: "Congratulations to Taranjit Singh Sandhu on being appointed as the Indian Ambassador to the United States of America. I am confident that his able diplomacy will lead to stronger ties between the two countries. I wish him all the best for this new responsibility."
Likewise, Harsimrat Kaur Badal said in a tweet: "The appointment of Taranjit Singh Sandhu as Indian Ambassador to the United States is a welcome development. I am sure that his experience and deep understanding will lead to stronger bilateral ties between India and the US. I congratulate him and wish him all the best."
