Dhanteras 2024: Significance and auspicious donations to please Goddess Lakshmi

Dhanteras 2024: Hinduism places great importance on fasts and festivals, each celebrated with enthusiasm and distinct significance. Among these, Diwali stands as one of the most prominent and cherished festivals. The celebration begins with Rama Ekadashi, followed by Dhanteras, which holds a special place in the festive calendar.

Dhanteras, observed after Ekadashi and Dwadashi, marks the worship of Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Dhanvantari. This day is considered particularly auspicious for seeking the blessings of wealth, prosperity, and well-being.

Importance of Dhanteras

The worship performed on Dhanteras is believed to please Goddess Lakshmi, who bestows devotees with happiness, wealth, success, and fame. Alongside traditional purchases, making specific charitable donations on this day is also regarded as highly favourable.

Date of Dhanteras 2024

This year, Dhanteras will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 29, 2024. The festival falls on the 13th day (Trayodashi) of the waxing phase of the moon in the Hindu month of Kartik. In addition to Goddess Lakshmi, devotees also worship Lord Dhanvantari and Lord Kuber on this day. Dhanteras is also known as Dhanvantari Jayanti.

Auspicious items for donation

White items: Donating white items like rice, sugar, milk, and flour to the needy is considered highly auspicious on Dhanteras. These offerings are believed to bring prosperity and good fortune.

Broom: Just as purchasing a broom on Dhanteras is significant, donating one is equally auspicious. It is believed that this practice pleases Goddess Lakshmi and helps remove financial hardships permanently.

Sweets: Offering sweets to someone on Dhanteras is considered a symbol of abundance. Those who donate sweets on this day are believed to invite wealth and prosperity into their homes.

Yellow clothes: Donating yellow clothes on Dhanteras is also seen as highly beneficial. Yellow is associated with the planet Jupiter, and offering yellow items strengthens Jupiter’s influence, bringing luck and favourable outcomes.

By making these donations, devotees not only honour tradition but also invite the blessings of happiness and prosperity into their lives.
