Diljit Dosanjh wins Rs 50 lakh on KBC, donates entire amount for Punjab flood relief
PTC Web Desk: Punjabi actor and singer Diljit Dosanjh appeared as a special guest on Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC), which aired on October 31 at 9 pm. Sitting across from Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan, Diljit impressed everyone with his intelligence and humour as he answered 14 questions correctly, using none of his lifelines for the first 10.
When Amitabh Bachchan reminded him that he could revive a lifeline by answering five more questions correctly, Diljit cheekily replied, “I haven’t used any yet, so when I use them in the next round, please give them back.” His wit and charm kept both the audience and the host entertained throughout the episode.
Diljit stumbled only on two questions , one related to Doordarshan and another about the Ellora Caves, where he used his lifelines. Eventually, he won Rs 50 lakh on the show. Without hesitation, he donated the entire prize money through the H Global Sikh Foundation to aid flood victims in Punjab. Diljit said he wished he could have won more for the relief efforts, but the round ended as the buzzer went off.
As Diljit walked onto the KBC stage, the audience gave him a thunderous round of applause. Amitabh Bachchan greeted him warmly, calling him “Punjab da puttar” (son of Punjab). The host also shared his deep connection with Punjab, revealing that his mother, Teji Kaur, belonged to the Sodhi family, known for their service at Sri Anandpur Sahib Gurdwara.
Bachchan recounted nostalgic memories, saying, “I visited Punjab for the first time when I was two years old with my mother. That was in 1944, before Partition. My maternal family’s home is now in Pakistan.” He also spoke of his multiple visits to Amritsar, including offering prayers at the Golden Temple and taking a holy dip in the sarovar.
During the episode, Amitabh Bachchan shared a touching story about how his parents, Teji Kaur and Harivansh Rai Bachchan, met. “My father first saw my mother during a marriage proposal meeting. Later, during a summer poetry event in Agra, my father recited a poem. My mother happened to be there, listening. As he read, tears rolled down her cheeks, and seeing her cry, my father also became emotional. That’s when they knew they were meant for each other.”
The show began with Diljit being asked which of the following dishes is sweet, — he confidently chose Gur Pare, giving a perfect start. He also answered a question about the Grammy Awards correctly. When asked to fill in the blank in the line “Main tumhe… tu mujhe…”, he correctly replied “kabool”.
In the “Pitara Round,” Diljit answered 6 out of 10 questions correctly, earning Rs 60,000. Impressed, Amitabh remarked, “I didn’t know you’re not just a singer but also so intelligent.”
Later, when a question about the Ellora Caves came up, Diljit used the Audience Poll lifeline, and for the Doordarshan theme tune question, he relied on the 50-50 lifeline to select the right answer.
At Amitabh’s request, Diljit sang his popular track “Lover” live on stage. Amitabh appreciated the performance with applause and said, “I’ve always loved this song. You perform across the world, but I feel lucky to hear it right here.”
