27 years later, still curious, still searching: Google celebrates 27th birthday with its first-ever vintage logo doodle

PTC Web Desk:  Tech giant Google celebrated its 27th birthday on Saturday by featuring its original 1998 logo on the search engine's homepage. The nostalgic Doodle took users on a trip down memory lane, showcasing Google's humble beginnings and evolution over nearly three decades. The vintage logo was displayed in multiple countries, including India, the US, Canada, Mexico and Thailand.

Founded by 1998 by Larry Page and Sergey Brin, Google started as a research project at Stanford University aimed at organising the world’s information and making it universally accessible. While the company was officially founded on September 4, 1998, Google later began celebrating its birthday on September 27 to mark its official incorporation.

Today’s Doodle highlights Google’s journey from its original design to its current innovations, ranging from Gmail and Google Photos to advanced AI tools like Gemini. Google Doodles are temporary artistic renditions of the logo created to commemorate significant cultural events, holidays, anniversaries, or notable personalities. The very first Doodle in 1998 was a simple “out of office” note when the founders went on vacation, and the first international Doodle was introduced in 2000 to celebrate Bastille Day in France.

Google India shared the milestone on X, posting today’s Doodle along with the first-ever Google homepage image. “27 years later, still curious, still searching. Celebrating Google’s 27th birthday with today’s Doodle,” the post read, marking the company’s enduring impact on the digital world.
