Childhood grudge: Two Kerala men arrested for taking revenge over Class 4 fight after 50 years
PTC Web Desk: In a bizarre case of long-held resentment, the police in Kerala’s Kasargod district arrested two men who allegedly assaulted a 62-year-old over a childhood altercation that dates back to their days in Class 4—nearly 50 years ago. The accused, Balakrishnan and Mathew Valiyaplakkal, were taken into custody for attacking VJ Babu, a former classmate of Balakrishnan. The incident reportedly occurred on June 2, just days after the trio attended an informal reunion.
According to the FIR, the roots of the conflict go back to an alleged attack during Class 4. At the reunion, Balakrishnan and Babu had a verbal exchange about the decades-old incident. Although the matter appeared to have been resolved amicably, tensions lingered beneath the surface.
On June 2, Balakrishnan, with Mathew accompanying him, confronted Babu once again. The duo allegedly asked him, “Why did you attack me in Class 4?” What followed was a shocking act of delayed vengeance—Balakrishnan allegedly grabbed Babu by the collar while Mathew struck him multiple times with a stone, targeting his face and back.
Babu sustained serious injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at Kannur Government Medical College Hospital in Pariyaram. The police have registered a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Sections: Section 126(2) (wrongful restraint), Section 118(1) (voluntarily causing hurt using dangerous weapons or means) and Section 3(5) (acts done by multiple persons in furtherance of common intention).
