The Uttarakhand government, led by the new Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, has suspended the Kanwar Yatra 2021 in view of the coronavirus pandemic which is at a critical stage as the third wave is likely to hit the nation. Uttarakhand announced a shutdown of its borders for ‘Kanwariyas’ from July 24 in an order to ensure the safety of the people. As per the report, the Quick Reaction Teams will be deployed along with the police force at the borders to stop Kanwariyas from entering the state. All you need to know about Uttarakhand's ban on Kanwar Yatra 2021?

  • Police and respective District Magistrates would prepare a standard operating procedure (SOP) on the ban.
  • If a Kanwariya is seen on the road, he would be sent back by bus or other means of transport.
  • Kanwariyas arriving in Haridwar by train would be asked for de-board at stations and sent back in buses.
  • If a Kanwariya is found defying the order and entering Haridwar, he will be put under forced quarantine for 14 days.
  • ‘Kanwar enforcement teams’ to be deployed in the Haridwar, Dehradun, Tehri, and Pauri to enforce law and order.
  • Uttarakhand Inspector General of Police (law and order) to hold meetings in Haridwar to figure out how holy Ganga water can be delivered in tankers.
  • Action against defaulters would be taken under the Epidemic Diseases Act.
  • Shopkeepers in the aforementioned districts have not been allowed to sell goods related to Kanwar Yatra.
