Uttarakhand Elections 2022: CM Pushkar Dhami to contest from Khatima

Uttarakhand Assembly Elections 2022: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announced that Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami will contest the upcoming polls from Khatima on Thursday. Born in 1975 in Kanalichhina village of Pithoragarh district, Dhami is a two-time MLA from the Khatima constituency. He is the son of an ex-serviceman and holds a law degree. Dhami has served as a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) volunteer and also had been a member of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). Dhami is considered to be a protege of Bhagat Singh Koshyari, the former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand. He belongs to the Kumaun region and the last two chief ministers were from the Garhwal region. Meanwhile, the saffron party has released its first list of candidates for the upcoming Uttarakhand elections. Candidacies of at least 59, including five women, have been announced. Suresh Chauhan from Gangotri and Pritam Singh Panwar from Dhanaulti have been given tickets. Replacing Madhu Chauhan, Ram Sharan Nautiyal will contest the elections from the Chakrata constituency. On February 14, the Uttarakhand Assembly Election will be held in a single phase. The results of the election will be announced on March 10.
