16 charred to death, 11 injured as bus catches fire near Pakistan's Pindi Bhattian

Pakistan Bus Accident: At least 16 people were charred to death and 11 others were injured after a bus caught fire on Faisalabad Motorway near the Pindi Bhattian area of Pakistan's Punjab on Sunday.

According to Pakistan-based Geo News, the bus carrying 35 to 40 passengers was en route from Karachi to Islamabad. The bus caught fire after it collided with a pickup van that was carrying diesel drums, District Police Officer Doctor Fahad was quoted as saying by Geo News.


According to Geo News, Fahad stated that the majority of the injured passengers were in critical condition. The drivers of both vehicles died, according to the report, which also said that others who were nearby at the time of the collision tried to rescue passengers from the bus by breaking windows.

As Pakistan celebrated its Independence Day on August 14, its Punjab province had a surge of road accidents, resulting in 17 deaths and 1,773 injuries in 1,659 traffic incidents, according to Dawn. Lahore has the highest number of road accidents.

On August 14, Lahore's major government hospitals saw an unprecedented influx of patients injured in road accidents.

On August 13, 9 people were killed and 1,338 others were injured in 1,234 road accidents reported across the province, according to official data published by the Emergency Service Department (ESD).

According to Dawn, the accident and emergency wards of the major government hospitals in Lahore saw an unusually high number of patients who were injured in accidents on August 14.
