Pakistani singer Abida Parveen’s Instagram blocked in India amid Pahalgam terror attack fallout
PTC Web Desk: Renowned Pakistani Sufi singer Abida Parveen's Instagram profile is no longer accessible in India. Users attempting to visit her page are met with a message stating, "Account not available in India. This is because we complied with a legal request to restrict this content." The restriction is part of a broader digital clampdown by the Indian authorities on Pakistani artists following the recent terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam region.
Abida Parveen, celebrated globally for her powerful renditions of Sufi poetry, has earned a devoted fan base across India. Her timeless performances of classics like ‘Tu Jhoom,’ ‘Main Naraye Mastana,’ ‘Pardadari,’ ‘Chaap Tilak’ and ‘Aaqa’ have transcended borders and cultural divides.
This move follows the Indian government’s continued policy of restricting digital content by Pakistani celebrities. Over the past few weeks, Instagram accounts of numerous Pakistani entertainers—including Mahira Khan, Hania Aamir, Ali Zafar, Sajal Aly, Sanam Saeed, Maya Ali, Ayeza Khan, Iqra Aziz Hussain, Fawad Khan, Atif Aslam, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, and Momina Mustehsan—have also been blocked in India.
The decision comes in the aftermath of the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, where militants opened fire in the popular Baisaran meadow, killing 26 persons, including a tourist from Nepal. The incident has sparked widespread grief and a call for action, leading to heightened scrutiny of cross-border cultural content.
