Canada robbery: A Punjabi family in the Canadian city of Malton was robbed of jewellery and valuables worth ₹1.39 crore in just two minutes. The homeowner said the theft occurred while they were attending a Vaisakhi event at a gurdwara.

According to Harmanpreet Kaur, the accused broke into the house through a kitchen window and collected all the jewellery in pillowcases before fleeing. When the family returned, they found the bedroom ransacked. CCTV footage later showed two suspects running away.

The woman broke down while recounting the incident, saying that after 10 years of hard work, they had bought the house just five months ago. The stolen jewellery included pieces gifted by elders in the family. She said the loss was not just financial—the emotional value of those heirlooms was far greater.

Harmanpreet Kaur said that Vaisakhi celebrations were being held across Canada, similar to Punjab, with processions taking place in many areas. She had stepped out with her family to celebrate when the thieves took advantage of the opportunity. “We were so happy celebrating Vaisakhi, but this theft has left us devastated,” she said.

She added that the burglars stayed inside the house for barely two minutes, wrapping the jewellery in pillow covers before leaving. The way the theft was carried out suggested they were familiar with the house, as they went straight to the drawer where the valuables were kept.
