PTC News Desk: The Indian government has blatantly criticised the arrest  and denial of bail to Chinmoy Krishna Das, spokesperson for the Bangladesh Sammilit Sanatan Jagran Jote. New Delhi urged Bangladesh authorities to ensure the safety and security of Hindus and all minorities, including their right of freedom of peaceful assembly and expression.

Ministry of External Affairs underscored that the incident follows series of attacks on Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh.

"It is unfortunate that while the perpetrators of these incidents remain at large, charges should be pressed against a religious leader presenting legitimate demands through peaceful gatherings. We also note with concern the attacks on minorities protesting peacefully against the arrest of Shri Das," MEA said in a statement.

Bangladesh Hindu monk Chinmoy Krishna Das was arrested  from the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport area in Dhaka on sedition charges and later his bail was denied by a court in Bangladesh citing that police did not request Das' remand, ordered his transfer to judicial custody. However the court also directed that he should be granted all religious privileges during his detention.

Soon after his arrest, Das' supporters throng the court complex while chanting slogans in his support.

The case dates back to October 30 when a case was registered against 19 people including Hindu monk for disrespecting Bangladesh's national flag during a rally of Hindu community.
