Israel-Hezbollah ceasefire: Israel drops bombs on Beirut minutes before ceasefire takes effect
Israel-Hezbollah ceasefire: Despite a cease-fire deal with Lebanon, Israel's military resumed what many call "dirty tactics" on the ground. The Israeli Air Force conducted airstrikes on Beirut, Lebanon's capital, early Wednesday, just minutes before the ceasefire was supposed to go into effect.
This surprising incident occurred shortly after President Joe Biden announced the truce, leaving Hezbollah "fuming" but unable to retaliate, as the ceasefire took effect at 4 a.m. local time.
After months of bloody battles sparked by the Israel-Gaza conflict, Israel and Lebanon's Hezbollah agreed to a ceasefire in September of this year, after numerous leaders of the Lebanese militant group were killed.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu hailed outgoing US President Joe Biden for "his involvement in securing the ceasefire agreement." According to Netanyahu's office, he informed Biden in a phone call that he welcomed the US leader's "understanding that Israel will maintain its freedom of action in enforcing it".
