PTC Web Desk: Pakistan Army chief General Asim Munir has been elevated to Field Marshal, the highest military rank in the country. With this promotion, he has become the second individual in Pakistan's history to attain this prestigious five-star rank, following Field Marshal Ayub Khan in 1959. This comes just days after a significant military standoff with India.

According to a statement issued by the Pakistan Prime Minister's office, the Union Cabinet of the country has approved the proposal to promote Asim Munir as Field Marshal.

The decision was officially confirmed by Pakistan's Prime Minister’s Office, which announced that the federal cabinet had approved the promotion on Tuesday.

The promotion comes at a time of growing military influence within Pakistan's political landscape. Earlier this week, the country’s Supreme Court issued a landmark verdict supporting the controversial trial of civilians in military courts. The ruling is widely seen as a move that consolidates the military’s grip on power, effectively granting greater authority to the Asim Munir-led military establishment.

Meanwhile, 'Dawn' reported  the Pakistan government as saying 'Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir (Nishan-i-Imtiaz Military) is being promoted to the rank of Field Marshal in recognition of his strategic leadership and decisive role in defending the nation during the recent conflict dubbed the “Battle of Truth” — Operation Bunyanum Marsoos'.

In a statement issued following a cabinet meeting, the Prime Minister’s Office announced the promotion, crediting General Munir for ensuring national security and defeating the enemy through "high-level strategic command and courageous leadership."

“General Munir led the Pakistan Army with exemplary resolve and coordinated the armed forces’ operations in a comprehensive and unified manner,” the statement noted, adding, “Under his unparalleled leadership, Pakistan secured a historic victory in the war for justice.”

Reacting to the honour, General Munir expressed deep gratitude. In a statement released by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), he said, “I thank Allah Almighty for this immense honour and dedicate it to the entire nation, the Pakistan Armed Forces, and especially to the martyrs and veterans—both military and civilian.”
