PM Modi advocates global unity and dialogue to address Ukraine crisis

Hiroshima, May 21: Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasised the humanitarian aspect of the situation in Ukraine during his address at a G7 session in Hiroshima. He stated that the issue is not merely political or economic but revolves around human values. 

Modi stressed the importance of dialogue and diplomacy as the sole means to resolve the conflict, calling on all nations to uphold the UN Charter, international law, and the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries. He urged for collective voices to be raised against unilateral attempts to alter the status quo.


Modi's remarks come against the backdrop of the ongoing border dispute with China in eastern Ladakh and Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Drawing inspiration from Buddha, the Prime Minister emphasized that there is no problem in the modern age that cannot be addressed through the teachings of Buddha.

Referring to his recent talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Modi stated, "I do not consider the current situation as an issue of politics or economy. I believe it is an issue of humanity, an issue of human values." He reaffirmed India's commitment to pursuing dialogue and diplomacy to seek a resolution, offering support from India to contribute in any possible manner.

Modi reiterated India's longstanding position that tensions and disputes should be peacefully resolved through dialogue. He highlighted the interconnectedness of the world, stating that tensions in any region affect all countries. Developing countries, particularly those with limited resources, bear the brunt of global crises such as the food, fuel, and fertilizer crisis.

"In today's interconnected world, tension in any one region affects all countries. And, developing countries, which have limited resources, are affected the most," the Prime Minister emphasized. He called for collective efforts to achieve global peace, stability, and prosperity, recognizing the shared objective among nations.

Modi highlighted the profound impact of the current global situation on developing countries, stressing that they are the ones suffering the most from the food, fuel, and fertilizer crisis. The Prime Minister emphasized the need for cooperation and support to address these challenges and ensure the well-being of all nations.
