Syria Civil war: President Bashar Al-Assad flees country as rebels capture Damascus
PTC News Desk: Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has fled the country as rebel forces have captured Damascus after a week-long offensive encountering no resistance from government troops.
Bashar al-Assad has been known to rule the country for 24 years with an iron fist who has now fled the country and boarded the plane to an undisclosed location. The army command has reportedly informed officers that the Assad regime has fallen.
"The tyrant Bashar al-Assad has fled. We declare Damascus free of the tyrant Bashar al-Assad," rebels proclaimed.
Soon after rebels announced end of an era, Prime Minister Mohammad Ghazi al-Jalali has asserted that they are ready for government handover. As per the reports, fighters of a key Assad ally had left their positions around the Syrian capital.
According to Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, Syrian military and security forces have withdrawn from Damascus International Airport amid rebel offensive.
