Trump countersues E Jean Carroll for defamation following jury verdict in sexual abuse case

PTC News Desk: Former US President Donald Trump has filed a defamation lawsuit against E Jean Carroll, accusing her of falsely accusing him of rape. This countersuit comes after a civil trial jury made an unusual finding in May, stating that Trump had sexually abused and defamed Carroll, a former advice columnist for Elle magazine, but did not rape her.

In the lawsuit filed at the Manhattan federal court, Trump is seeking a retraction from Carroll as well as unspecified compensatory and punitive damages.

Roberta Kaplan, Carroll's lawyer, responded to Trump's filing, stating that it was merely an attempt to avoid being held accountable for the jury's verdict. Kaplan asserted that Trump's argument, claiming exoneration based on the jury's finding of sexual abuse, goes against logic and facts.

Trump's legal team has yet to comment on the matter.

With Trump's recent filing, it appears that the legal battle between him and Carroll will continue, with both sides exchanging accusations and denials through the media.

Carroll, in May, amended one of her lawsuits against Trump, seeking an additional $10 million in damages. This was prompted by Trump's denial during a CNN appearance the day after the jury verdict was announced.
