UK: Met Police releases CCTV image of GS Bhatia; probe ordered in tragic death incident

After tragic and heart-breaking death tale of Indian student Gurashman Singh Bhatia, a Loughborough University student in the UK a probe has been ordered in the dreadful case.

Ordering a probe in tragic death tale of Jalandhar youth GS Bhatia, UK’s Metropolitan Police on Thursday appealed for more detailed information to know the full detailed reason of GS Bhatia death.  As per investigation carried out by the Met Police and as per the CCTV footages, GS Bhatia’s body has been believed to be recovered by police divers in the water in South Quay

Expressing grief over tragic death of GS Bhatia and ensuring detailed probe in the case, Detective Chief Superintendent (DCI) James Conway said, “Gurashman's death is being treated as unexpected, and while there is nothing to suggest it was suspicious, we will ensure our investigation is as thorough as possible to confirm this.” 


"Because of this, we are releasing a CCTV image of Gurashman that was taken before his disappearance and would like anyone who may have seen him in the Marsh Wall area on the evening of Thursday, 14 December and in the early hours of Friday, 15 December, to contact us."
“Anyone with information about Gurashman’s movements is asked to call 101 quoting the reference CAD5787/15Dec,” Met Police added.

Meanwhile, expressing grief and sadness over heart-breaking death of Ashman Singh, Sanam Arora, Chair of the National Indian Students and Alumni Union (NISAU) UK said, “What a tragic, heartbreaking loss of one of our beautiful lives. I had spoken to his father and friends only some days ago when we first found out he was missing and had been praying for his safe discovery. ” 

Who was Gurashman Singh Bhatia? 

Gurashman Singh Bhatia hailed from Punjab Jalandhar's Model Town from a very renowned family, GS Bhatia completed his primary and secondary education from Delhi Public School Jalandhar. GS Bhatia shifted to London to pursue his postgraduate from Loughborough University and was issued a two-year UK residence permit, which was valid until June 2, 2024.


After celebrating his birthday on December 15, Gurashman Singh Bhatia was last spotted in Canary Wharf. His friends called a cab, parting ways, and that marked the last when they saw him and his body was found in a river in London on December 19, 2023. 


In the recent times, dreams of Indian youth pursuing education in foreign shores is turning into nightmares, with many grappling with mental health issues, robbery and murder cases and Indians are tragically losing their lives shortly after arriving abroad. 


Several cases of deaths of Indian youths abroad have created a state of panic back home in India. Now parents are either not willing to send their children abroad or whose wards are already settled there are in a state of anxiety and panic
