US President Biden's son charged with tax evasion, weapon offence

Hunter Biden, son of US President Joe Biden, has been charged with failing to pay federal income tax and illegally possessing a weapon. Furthermore, he has reached an agreement with the Justice Department, according to a letter filed in U.S. District Court in Delaware.

Hunter Biden will plead guilty to misdemeanour tax offences as part of the agreement, which was made public on Tuesday, and is anticipated to negotiate a deal with prosecutors on the felony charge of illegally possessing a firearm as a drug user. Even if it is not entirely unheard of, it is unusual for a federal criminal case to be resolved at the same time the charges are filed in court.

The agreement puts an end to a long-running Justice Department probe into Biden's second son, who has acknowledged having drug addiction in the wake of his brother Beau Biden's death in 2015. Additionally, it averts a trial that would have caused days, weeks, or distracting headlines for a White House that has adamantly tried to distance itself from the Justice Department.
