Kejriwal Trivializing Drugs Issue To Divert Attention From Drug Abuse Charges Against Own Party Leaders, Says Capt Amarinder

New Delhi: Accusing him of trivializing a serious issue like drugs, Punjab Congress president Captain Amarinder Singh on Saturday lashed out at Arvind Kejriwal’s frivolous and shameless remarks on the same, saying he was resorting to all kinds of falsehoods on the subject in a desperate bid to divert attention from charges of drug abuse against his own party’s leaders. With AAP workers and volunteers themselves making allegations of drugs abuse against party leaders, many of whom are also caught in corruption and sex scandals, Kejriwal was now resorting to diversion tactics by indulging in blatant lies against the Congress, said Captain Amarinder. Referring to his party’s fight against the drugs menace and his own personal commitment to wipe out drugs from Punjab within four weeks of assuming power, the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president lashed out at Kejriwal over his reported ‘drug peddling’ remarks against the Congress, saying it also reflected the AAP national convenor’s utter disconnect with the people of the state, which was grappling with a serious drugs problem. Having ditched the people of Punjab on critical issues such as SYL, on which he failed to stand by the state, Kejriwal was now rubbing salt on their wounds on the drugs issue by making misleading statements on it, Captain Amarinder said. The PPCC president once again challenged Kejriwal to come out for an open debate on issues of vital interest to Punjab, including drugs and SYL, instead of making unfounded allegations and resorting to cheap gimmickry. “Simply copying the Congress promise on drugs unabashedly is not enough. The people of Punjab want you to convince them of your seriousness in the matter, especially given your track record of changing your mind 10 times a day,” said Captain Amarinder, asking Kejriwal to make his own stand clear on the subject of drugs since his own party workers and volunteers had accused senior AAP leaders of indulging in drugs use. With AAP itself mired in serious scams and scandals, including drugs, Kejriwal should spend his precious time putting his own house in order instead of making baseless allegations against others, Captain Amarinder declared, warning the AAP leader that his desperate attempts to hoodwink the people would backfire on him and he would have be left with no face to show in Punjab after the coming assembly polls.
