Self Styled godman Asaram sentenced to life imprisonment in Rape Case Self-styled guru Asaram has been given a life sentence, this means he will spend the rest of his life behind bars, confirms Rajasthan DGP OP Gehlotra. Meanwhile, Asaram's convicted co-accused Shilpi and Sharad have been sentenced to 20 years each in jail by Jodhpur Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Court in the 2013 rape case. Controversial self styled godman Asaram Bapu, was on Wednesday convicted by a Jodhpur court in Rajasthan on charges of raping a 16-year-old girl in 2013. Special Judge (SC/ST court) Madhusudhan Sharma delivered the verdict in the Jodhpur Central jail premises. Saying that Asaram is not a repeat offender, defence has argued for minimum punishment. According to the complaint filed by the victim's family, the girl, who was 16-years-old at the time of the incident, was tricked by the godman and his associates who claimed that the girl was possessed. Asaram has been convicted under sections 370, 376, POCSO, 120 B, 342 and 354. These sections are — Sexual Assault, Outraging a woman's modesty, POCSO, wrongful confinement and criminal conspiracy.
