XXI Commonwealth Games: 18 year old Deepak Lather wins Bronze in weightlifting

XXI Commonwealth Games: 18 year old Deepak Lather wins Bronze in weightlifting Eighteen-year-old Deepak Lather scripts history by winning a bronze medal for India in weightlifting competition of the XXI Commonwealth Games at Gold Coast to give India its fourth medal and first bronze of the games. Deepak Lather lifted a total of 295 kg which included 136 kg in snatch and and 159 kg in clean and jerk, finishing third in the standings behind Gareth Evans of Wales and Indika Dissanayake of Sri Lanka. Deepak Lather became the youngest male weightlifter to win a Commonwealth Games medal. He was overall placed third in 69 kg category. This is the second medal for India on day two of the Commonwealth Games. Sanjita Chanu landed India its second gold medal at the XXI Commonwealth Games, winning the top spot in the women’s 53kg category of the weightlifting competitions at the Carrara Sports Arena 1 in Gold Coast on Friday.
