Youth Olympic Games Hockey Qualifier, India men, women team notch up huge wins

Youth Olympic Games Hockey Qualifier, India men, women team notch up Making international debut in Hockey 5s, the short version of hockey, India made a splendid start in the Youth Olympic Games Hockey Qualifier Tournament in Bangkok today. While India under-18 men team notched up the biggest win of tournament defeating the hosts Thailand, 25-0, Indian women team defeated Singapore 14-0.

Led by Vivek Parsad, who represented India in just completed Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, India men scored at will. In the third and last segment, India scored eight goals after adding 10 in the second segment to its first segment tally of seven goals.
Hockey 5s, the shorter version of hockey, is played in three segments of 10 minutes each.
Interestingly, all members of Indian men team other than goalkeeper were among the scorers.
Skipper Vivek Parsad scored four while Mohammed Alishan was the top scorer with six goals followed by Rahul Kumar Rajbhar (five) Moirangthem Rabichandra and Vivek Parsad (four each), Maninder Singh and Sanjay (two each) Yashdeep Siwach and Shivam Anand (one each) were the other scorers.
In the women's section, Indian women led by five goals to nil in the first segment. The lead was increased to 11-0 in the second segment and three more goals were added in the third and final segment.
Sangita Kumari was the top scorer for India with six goals followed by Lalremsiani (three), Deepika and Mumtaz Khan (two each), and Ishika were the scorers for India.
In other games,  Japan beat Taipei 14-0, Malaysia beat Hong Kong 10-1, China beat Taipei 15-1 in women's section while in men's section Japan beat Hong Kong 9-0, Korea beat Thailand 10-5, Malaysia beat Cambodia 23-0, Pakistan drew with Taipei 3-3, Bangladesh beat Singapore 10-4, and Korea beat Hong Kong 12-1.
