10 lakh smart meters to be installed in Haryana
More than 10 lakh new smart meters will be installed in Haryana. The state government has initiated the purchase process. The best feature of these smart meters would be that these meters will offer a prepaid facility. According to Chairman-cum-Managing Director, Uttar and Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam, Shatrujeet Kapoor, these new smart meters would replace the manual meter reading completely in five years from now.
He further said that even at present, the people are receiving their electricity bills directly on their mobile phones through SMS.
He further told that the power utility department has already allotted the tender of 10 lakh new smart meters. The work has already begun to welcome this new advancement. Around Rs, 1.50 crore has already been spent on the replacement of electricity poles, wires and transformers. In 2017, the raids were conducted during which the department registered 350 cases to stop power thefts.
