AAP proved it is B team of Congress in assembly today – SAD
The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today said Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had proved that it was the B team of the Congress with leader of opposition party Harpal Cheema refusing to even demand extension of the budget session to debate burning issues of Punjab.

Addressing a joint press conference in the media gallery of the Vidhan Sabha here, former ministers Parminder Singh Dhindsa and Bikram Singh Majithia said never before had any opposition party in Punjab remained a mute spectator to the murder of democracy in the State. “The manner in which AAP legislature party leader Harpal Cheema remained quiet in the meeting of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) when discussion was held on the tenure of the session and in the assembly today shows that AAP is working in collusion with the Congress party”, the former ministers said.

Giving details, Mr Parminder Dhindsa said during a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) he had repeatedly requested Harpal Cheema to register his protest at the manner in which the Congress party was pushing for an extremely short one week budget session. “Cheema did not pay heed to my requests and today when voting was to take place on the recommendations of the BAC Cheema refused to demand a longer session to discuss issues of farmers, youth, employees and dalits”.

Mr Dhindsa said during a BAC meeting he had given proof to Speaker Rana K P Singh that except for years in which vote on account was placed before the house due to forthcoming elections, the budget sessions had never been so short during SAD-BJP tenure. He said during 2010 there was a 14 day budget session while in 2016 there was a 13 day budget session”.

Mr Bikram Majithia said the conduct of the leader of opposition had proved that the Congress and AAP were playing a fixed match. He said this was happening because Harpal Cheema did not want to lose the post of opposition leader. “The Speaker can disqualify seven legislators any time he chooses”. The Akali leader while speaking about the AAP legislators, who had resigned from the primary membership of the assembly, said they stood disqualified as per constitutional provisions. “However Speaker Sahib has not taken a decision on this matter. I only want to ask one thing. Are these mlas above the constitution? How are they getting salary, house facility and security? Who will bear this expense eventually? They must answer these questions as they concern constitutional provisions as well as morality and ethics”.

Stating that it was unfortunate that AAP was not raising public issues only to retain the tag of principal opposition party, Mr Majithia said the SAD would continue to raise people’s issues including justice for lady teachers who had been manhandled during peaceful protest at Patiala and total breakdown of law of order. “Things have deteriorated to such a level that a cases was registered in the Ludhiana rape incident after 27 hours. We also demand immediate release of Rs 4,000 crore to government employees on account of DA arrears and immediate regularization of all 27,000 contractual employees”., he added.EOM
