Afghan Forces Free 149 People Abducted by Taliban; 21 Still Captive Afghanistan’s government has rescued 149 people, including women and children, abducted by the Taliban militants in the province of Kunduz on Monday. Nearly 21 captives were still held captive by the Taliban. According to the sources, the rescue operation conducted by the Afghanistan government has killed 7 Taliban militants. The governor in Kunduz, also confirmed that the rescue operation of the hostages and said that the operation is still continuing. The incident came despite President Ashraf Ghani’s call for a ceasefire with the Taliban during the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha. Mohammad Yusouf Ayubi, the head of the provincial council in Kunduz province told that the Taliban militants stopped three buses on the road near Khan Abad district and abducted the passengers on Monday. Abdul Rahman Aqtash, a police chief told the sources that the passengers were travelling to the capital i.e.., Kabul. Mr Ghani said, “The ceasefire should be observed from both sides, and its continuation and duration also depend on the Taliban’s stand.” The Taliban has grown a lot stronger in the past few years.
