Alleging 'cheating' in Term 1 exams, schools urge CBSE to cut its weightage

Some private schools have urged the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to reduce the weightage of the Term I examination for the 2021-2022 session, claiming that many schools used "unfair means and malpractices" when grading students during exams. National Progressive Schools' Conference (NPSC) suggested CBSE Chairperson Vineet Joshi to reduce the weightage of the Term I Examination in the range of 20% to 30%, while the weightage of the Term II Examination be increased by 70% to 80%. The development comes days after CBSE shared the Term-1 results of classes 10 and 12. Consequently, many students of these schools scored full marks in most of the subjects. We are sure that CBSE must also have received similar feedback on this issue," the letter by National Progressive Schools’ Conference (NPSC) read. The weightage of Term-I and Term-II examinations will be determined when the Term-II results are released, and the final performance will be calculated accordingly, as per the board. The CBSE stated last year that the board exams for 2022 will be held in two terms. Last year, the Term-1 exams for major subjects were held between November 30 and December 11.
