Avian Influenza: Six states report bird flu outbreak, details inside

Bird Flu in India: The Avian Influenza positive samples have been confirmed from ICAR-NIHSAD in poultry (two poultry farms) of Haryana's Panchkula and reporting of positive samples in migratory birds in Gujarat's Junagadh and in crows in Sawai Madhopur, Pali, Jaisalmer and Mohar districts of Rajasthan.

Meanwhile, the officials suggested the affected states contain the disease as per the Action Plan on Avian Influenza. So far, Bird flu in India has been confirmed from six states i.e. Kerala, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana and Gujarat.

It has been learned that culling operations have been completed in both the affected districts of Kerala while the disinfection process is underway.

The states that are still unaffected by AI have been requested to keep a vigil on any unusual mortality amongst birds and to report immediately so that necessary measures are taken in the fastest possible time.

Likewise, the Central teams have rushed to the affected states of Kerala, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh for monitoring and for epidemiological investigation.

Unusual mortality of 16 birds has also been reported in DDA park Hastsal Village, Delhi after which the AH Department of NCT, Delhi, has taken precautionary measures and sent samples to ICAR-NIHSAD.

Also, the states have been requested to increase awareness regarding the safety of poultry or poultry products that were safe for consumption following boiling and cooking procedures for which central support would be available.
