Azlan Shah Hockey: India rounds up pool games with 10-0 win over Poland

Favourites India ended its pool engagements with a smashing 10-0 win over winless Poland in the 28th Azlan Shah Hockey Tournament at Ipoh on Friday. The win fourth for India in five games makes no change in its standing as the leader of the table.

In a game between the leaders of the pool, India, and bottom placed Poland, that was of academic interest only, the  outcome had no impact on the medal round games. India plays Korea for the gold medal on Saturday.

For India, the game provided good practice ground as it tried Varun Kumar, Surender Kumar and Amit Rohidas in taking penalty corners. All of them scored. at least one goal each though Varun Kumar scored two. Of the six field goals India scored, two came from mercurial Mandeep Singh while  Vivek Prasad, Sumit Kumar, Simranjeet Singh and Nilkanta Sharma were the other scorers. Starting with a goal in the first minute, India scored at regular intervals by taking a comfortable 6-0 lead till the breath Third, fourth, fifth and tenth goals came from penalty corners.

Incidentally, it was India's biggest win of the current tournament. Earlier, it had beaten Canada 7-3, Japan 2-0, Malaysia 4-2 besides playing 1-1 draw with Korea.
