Chhattisgarh elections: Voting in second phase for 72 seats begins

Voting in second phase for 72 seats in Chhattisgarh’s Maoist- hit belt has started under heavy security cover. As many as 19,296 polling booths have been set up for the second phase.

The first phase of polls for 18 seats across eight districts had commenced on November 12. A voter turnout of 76.28% was recorded in the first phase.

The Congress government is also hoping to recapture the power despite huge anti-incumbency. More than one lakh security personnel, including paramilitary forces, have been deployed in the state. The security forces are using drones to a vigil in the polling districts.

The last phase of the campaign witnessed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Yogi Adityanath accusing Congress of the rise of Maoists in the state. They also accused Congress of supporting urban Naxals.

During the campaigning, the Congress primarily focused on the local issues like loan waivers to farmers, liquor ban, etc. The Congress chief, Rahul Gandhi accused Chief Minister, Raman Singh,and his son of corruption.
