PTC Web Desk: Bollywood actor Sunny Deol has found himself at the centre of an unexpected social media discussion after an old advertisement featuring him resurfaced online.

The video has started circulating again after Sunny recently said that he has never promoted pan masala and would not do such an advertisement because it does not match his beliefs. The old commercial also features actors Ravi Kishan and Vijay Raaz.

Old advertisement goes viral again

In the resurfaced advertisement, Sunny Deol is seen visiting a paan shop with two women. They ask for meetha paan, after which Sunny is shown consuming it. The product shown in the commercial is presented as a pan masala product, while its packaging carries the claims “No Tobacco” and “No Nicotine.” Sunny's picture can also be seen on the product packaging.

The old video has attracted renewed attention because of the actor's recent comments about refusing offers to endorse pan masala.

During a recent conversation with YouTuber Shubhankar Mishra, Sunny spoke about the kind of advertisements he chooses to do. The actor said he receives offers to promote pan masala but has refused them because he does not believe such products should be promoted.

Sunny made it clear that he does not want to associate himself with products that go against his personal beliefs.

He also explained that there are several things he chooses not to do because his conscience does not allow him to do them.

Shah Rukh Khan, Ajay Devgn and Tiger Shroff face FDA notices

The controversy surrounding celebrity endorsements of pan masala comes at a time when Shah Rukh Khan, Ajay Devgn and Tiger Shroff have received show-cause notices from the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The notices relate to their appearance in a 2024 advertisement for Vimal Elaichi. Vimal is also associated with pan masala products.

The FDA has raised concerns that such advertising could amount to indirect or surrogate promotion of pan masala or tobacco-related products, which are prohibited in Maharashtra.

Actors given 15 days to respond

According to the notice, the actors have been given 15 days from the date they received it to submit their responses.

The FDA has warned that further action could follow if the actors fail to respond or if their explanations are not considered satisfactory.

Why Sunny Deol’s old video has sparked debate

Sunny's old advertisement has now drawn attention mainly because of the timing. His recent statement that he does not promote pan masala has been widely discussed online, while users have been sharing the older commercial and questioning the apparent contradiction.
