FIH Men's Series Finals: Brazil defeats Belarus to avoid wooden spoon

Brazil ended its campaign in the FIH Men's Series Finals defeating Belarus 4-3 in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday. With this win, Brazil not only avoided the wooden spoon but also took the seventh spot in the eight-nation event.Though both Belarus and Brazil played out their hearts in a game of little consequence, it did bring out scoring abilities of players on either side.

It was Belarus that started the scoring with a penalty corner conversion by Aliaksandr Hancharou in the 21st minute. Matheus Borges restored the parity of a penalty corner rebound before. Uladzislau Belavusau scored the second goal for Belarus. The most amazing goal came from Brazil's Gabriel de Grandis who made sure that a move built out of a counter attack of a penalty corner was converted into a goal to make the score 2-2 at the breather. After change of ends, Brazil forged ahead in the 34th minute with a goal from Fabio Assis.

A magnificent flick into the roof of the net by Artur Kadran from a penalty corner again brought Belarus at par with Brazil. However, a brilliant solo effort by Lucas Paixao in the 52nd minute scored the all important decisive goal to give out Americans a well deserved win.
