Government will have to repeal farm laws 2020: Rakesh Tikait

Hours after Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar asked farmers to discuss farm laws 2020 clause-wise, Bhartiya Kisan Union spokesperson, Rakesh Tikait, on Sunday said that the government will have to repeal these laws.

"Only those will discuss clause-wise who want amendments in farm laws 2020, and this is not even our question. The government will have to repeal these laws," Rakesh Tikait said.

Hours after Narendra Singh Tomar asked farmers to discuss farm laws 2020, here's what Bhartiya Kisan Union leader, Rakesh Tikait said.

Even as he said that "If a few lakh farmers are camping at the borders of Delhi, why is the government not repealing Farm Laws 2020? I think the agitation will continue," Bhartiya Kisan Union leader said.

Also, Tikait said, "farmers were prepared to protest against Centre's new farm laws "till May 2024", terms ongoing agitation by peasants at Delhi borders an ideological revolution."

The statement came hours after the Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said that "we expect that farmers discuss the laws clause-wise on January 19 and tell the government what they want other than the repeal of the laws."

Hours after Narendra Singh Tomar asked farmers to discuss farm laws 2020, here's what Bhartiya Kisan Union leader, Rakesh Tikait said.

Even as he said that "We had sent a proposal to farmer unions in which we agreed to address their apprehensions regarding mandis, traders' registration and others."

Adding, he said that the Government of India held talks with the Kisan Union not once but for 9 times and that the Centre consistently urged the Farmers Union to discuss these laws clause-wise and tell the objections.

The farmers’ have been protesting at Delhi borders against the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020, Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, and Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.
