Hockey Olympic Qualifiers: After China, Australian women also get a ticket to Tokyo

After China, Australia became the second women's hockey team to secure a berth in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic games. After winning the first game against visiting Russians 4-2 yesterday, the hosts pelted five goals in the first half for their second consecutive win to make it to the ensuing Olympic games.

Russians were disappointed as they went all out to put up a better performance than yesterday. But three quick goals in last five minutes of the first half took the fight out of them. Though the visitors continued to play their best but their efforts were in vain against strong Australians who defended their fort very well  besides trying to build some good moves.

If Emily Chalker was the local heroine yesterday , it was Mariah Williams who scored two goals. Emily was also among the scorers. Grace Stewart and Sophie Taylor were the other scorers for Australia.

It may be pertinent to mention that Australia had lost the direct qualification battle to its traditional rival and neighbor New Zealand on goal average.
