10 lives lost as SUV plunges into gorge in J-K's Ramban

Banihal/Jammu, March 29: A devastating accident unfolded in Ramban district as an SUV veered off the Jammu-Srinagar national highway, plummeting into a gorge and resulting in the loss of ten lives. The incident occurred during the early hours of Friday when the vehicle, en route from Srinagar to Jammu, met with tragedy at the Battery Cheshma area, plunging into a 300-ft-deep gorge around 1:15 am.

Officials confirmed the fatalities, with ten individuals succumbing to the fatal crash. Among the deceased were the vehicle's driver, Balwan Singh (47) from Amb Ghrotha in Jammu, and Vipin Mukhiya Bhairagang from West Champaran in Bihar.

Despite heavy rain adding to the complexities of the rescue efforts, police and State Disaster Response Force personnel swiftly mobilized to the scene. Despite the challenging conditions, the bodies of all ten passengers were successfully recovered. The authorities have initiated a thorough rescue operation to manage the aftermath of the tragic accident.
