Ahmedabad plane crash update: The government has informed Parliament that investigators have not found any defect in the fuel control switch locking mechanism of the Air India AI-171 aircraft that crashed in Ahmedabad last year, claiming the lives of 260 persons.

The update comes as the investigation into the tragic crash enters its final phase, with a detailed examination of the aircraft's thrust control module still underway in Seattle.

Replying to questions during the Monsoon Session of Parliament, the Ministry of Civil Aviation said the fuel control switch was examined through advanced testing conducted by the aircraft's Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM).

According to the findings shared in the Rajya Sabha, the inspection found no abnormality in the fuel control switch or its locking mechanism.

Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol said the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) had ordered the tests as part of continuing airworthiness checks after the aircraft type was grounded in February this year.

Thrust control module still under examination

While the fuel control switch has been cleared so far, investigators are continuing to inspect the aircraft's complete thrust control module at the OEM's facility in Seattle. The government said the examination is still in progress and the final conclusions will depend on the outcome of these tests.

Govt says final AAIB report not delayed

The government also rejected claims that the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) had delayed its final investigation report. It told Parliament that major aircraft accident investigations do not follow a fixed timeline and require detailed technical analysis before conclusions are drawn.

According to the ministry, the AI-171 investigation is now in its final stages.

All possible causes being examined

The government said investigators are examining all possible causes and contributing factors that may have led to the crash.

Once the investigation is completed, the AAIB will release its final report, which will include all findings and recommendations. The report will be made available on the bureau's official website.
