PTC News Desk: My father will take care of it- these were the remarks of 19-year-old Suhail Sajeev who was taken into custody after killing three students with his Mini Cooper in Kerala's

Ernakulam district in the early hours of Sunday.

Three students, including two women, were killed after a speeding car hit their two-wheeler at around 2 am in Nedumbassery, Kerala. The accident occurred when they were returning home after having tea at a nearby shop.

The victims have been identified as Devika, a native of Wayanad; Gopika, from Palakkad; and Ijaz, from Karnataka. All three were also working in Thrikkakara.

According to police, the speeding car rammed into their two-wheeler, leaving all three critically injured. Local residents rushed them to a hospital, but they died.

The driver, identified as Suhail, has been booked for culpable homicide and other relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Police suspect that he may have been driving under the influence of alcohol or other intoxicating substances. Suhail was taken for a medical examination after the accident. He allegedly admitted to consuming alcohol before the crash but claimed that he had only drunk beer.

His blood and other samples have been collected for testing, and the results are awaited.

Ernakulam Rural Superintendent of Police K S Sudarsan told reporters that a forensic examination of the car was also being conducted to check for any intoxicating substances inside the vehicle. He said the preliminary investigation suggested that the driver might have been under the influence of alcohol, but the blood test results would be needed to confirm this.

Police said the car was registered in Suhail’s father’s name and that Suhail holds a valid driving licence.

Television footage of the accident showed the Mini Cooper speeding along a wide road before crashing into the two-wheeler, which was travelling along the extreme left side.

The investigation is ongoing, and police are awaiting the blood test results and findings of the forensic examination.
